so last night my friend, her boyfriend, and I took the bus from school to West Hollywood to go see the Franz Ferdinand show at Amoeba (free concert). I'd never been so I was pretty excited. The store was pretty empty while we were browsing then were startled to hear that anyone waiting to get into the FF gig had to be in line outside, so we ran out. The line stretched for blooooooocks and we were unsure as to whether we'd actually get in or not, seeing as the store is quite big but there were so many people. We felt kind of stupid for a while being at the very end of that line and all but gradually tons more people came to join us. By the time the line started moving in we could not even see the end of it from where we were.

We had to wait outside without provisions or anything (one bottle of water and 2 packs of tic tacs for the three of us) for about an hour, then once we finally got in we had to wait almost 2 more hours for the show to start. We were packed in between the rows and rows of merchandise (we were in the new rock section by the "g"s... with a decent view) and had to sit on the floor without anything to do while they prepared the soundcheck and everything (I felt like cattle in our roped-off stalls).

The show was only asbout 45 mins long but was very good. I'm ashamed to say I really had never heard much from Franz Ferdinand before this but really liked it a lot. My favorite song of the night was "Ullyses", and then "Dark of the Matinee". Wish I could've been a hardcore fan to really appreciate it but nonetheless it was very enjoyable. Got some snazzy earplugs as well.

Left Amoeba to get something to eat (finally) but I fell asleep and did not eat anything. Walked around for a good while, went to a local park... swung, played on the jungle gym, and l,ay on the grass gazing at the stars then got stopped by a police officer and left. A great evening.
Didn't bring a camera but did get some nice screenshots from the video feed on the website. (http://www.amoeba.com/live-shows/videos/franz-ferdinand.html)

right now I'm tring to book some tix to see The Bird and the Bee at the Natural History Museum next friday! yay!!!!

...got a 9 on an AP english paper and over a 100% on a calculus test
screwed around with my retainer too much and, after less than 2 months, have already broken it.
got a new mixtape. of course, the best part of my day =P
and now have an itunes card to blast.
I'm on a Bird and the Bee spree. I quite like them.
...working on a Valentines mix (not a mushy-gushy one, but just some good songs that will hopefully be cheery even to those with nothing to celebrate... T_T me lol)
fair warning: it's probably all going to be the Bird and the Bee ;) their songs are all fitting

Here's what I think about my latest purchases:

"Let's Get Out Of This Country" by Camera Obscura
I've always really liked Camera Obscura, and I have to say that there is not a song on this album that I dislike. It is very easy to listen to, and the transitions between songs are perfect- not choppy in the least. I love it and would highly recommend if you're into Scottish twee-pop.

"Can't Go Back" by Papercuts
Not my favorite of my purchases (a few of the songs I'm not crazy about). I think that "Dear Employee" is perfect and wonderful, but unfortunately do not feel as strongly for the others.

"Everything Last Winter" by Fields
I was expecting not to be all that enthused about this album, but I really do like all of the songs. Again, they have a wonderful order and there are no awkward transitions between songs. My favorites from before are still the same, but I do enjoy the entire album as a whole. I would highly recommend.

"The Bird of Music" by Au Revoir Simone
I love every second of this album. I have listened to the entire thing all the way through so many times, I've stopped counting. The last few songs (Dark Halls, Night Majestic, Lark, The Way to There) were ones  that I never encountered before, and I have instantly fallen in love with them. I even find myself fast-forwarding to them sometimes because they are so delightful and sweet. My older favorites (A Violent Yet Flammable World, Sad Song, the Lucky One) are still just as good in my eyes as the first time I heard them. Very sweet vocals all around and soft keyboarding, although they are the main elements to every song, do not get tiresome for me.  If you're looking for an all-around amazing and satisfying cd, this would definitely apply.

"Sambassadeur" by Sambassadeur
This group is just wonderful. The male/female vocals differentiate the songs from one another and give the album diversity, but the constant sweet tone is so luscious and enticing. Definitely worth looking in to.

I decided to spend a $50 giftcard to Amazon entirely on cds that I could physically hold, display on my shelf, and cherish.
I ordered the following:

The Bird of Music- Au Revoir Simone
Can't Go Back- Papercuts
Let's Get Out of This Country- Camera Obscura
Sambassadeur- Sambassadeur
Everything Last Winter- Fields

(all of my favorites =D)

I've had "Firth of Fifth" by Genesis stuck in my head for about ever now.
My mom's in the emergency room for a condition that neither of us knows what it is.
I am considering joining a global mixtape service.
I need to do something more productive with my life. Oh well.

new mix from Vera:

L'Année Nouvelle

and an older mix from Vera:

The "I Fought the Law" mixtape

the first was made for me by a friend in yearbook,
the second by a guy on my bus.

"DELUX."

* track one... I like it already! (I really enjoyed "Jackie, Dressed in Cobras" and "You Are What You Love". This is definitely a mix to check out)

MY FIRST MANTAPE

...it's pretty obvious that this was made by a guy. Although it lacked a girlish essence that I like so much, I still really enjoyed it (well, almost all of it. No Bruce Springsteen or David Bowie for me please).

why is my livejournal so fugly?
it's really bumming me out.

A MIX FOR NEW YEARS (for V.S.)**

** some of these songs come from Christina's "Happy 16" mix. this is because, 1) I have very little new material to work with, and 2) I liked them so much =D

I just recently downloaded "Life In Technicolor" after hearing it on an airplane. It got some harsh reviews on iTunes but I think it's absolutely gorgeous. Heard track 6 on an episode of "The IT Crowd" and had to have it. I think "Isabel" is absolutely perfect, and "Cheat Death" is being added to the list of perfect (or near-perfect) songs as well. A must-listen!
